2023 Grant Recipients
Blue Ribbon Rangers
The Blue Ribbon Rangers supported the Pemberville Food Pantry by making 50 birthday bags. These bags will help spread love to children whose families are not able to afford a special celebration. They include a box cake mix, frosting, candles, napkins, plates, and a unique birthday card decorated by 4-H members. These bags will bring a special moment to homes in need and will inspire members to reach out and give back to their community.
Livestock Unlimited
Livestock Unlimited focused on the 4th “H” by providing encouragement and support during the very busy 4-H summer season. They assembled and distributed healthy treat bags for members and judges at Livestock Interview judging held July 13. Treat bags also included tips for staying healthy while maintaining a hectic summer schedule. Their goal is to promote physical and mental wellness to all county 4-H members.
Farmcrafters
Farmcrafters gave their hands to larger service with two different projects this year. First, they participated in a service activity at Bechtel Cemetery. Gravestones were cleaned during this project. Second, they made 30-40 hospice pillows to be given to local hospice centers for patients to use for proper positioning and comfort.
Duke’s Mixture
Duke’s Mixture concentrated their efforts on improving the Wood County Fairgrounds. They will set up selfie stations to encourage fair visitors to take a selfie and share their positive experience during the fair and also repainted the goat barn. For these members, taking care of fairgrounds sets an example of how they want others to see 4-H and its members.
Klassy Kids
Klassy Kids members had a “hands to larger service” day for their Inspire Kids To Do Grant. First they worked with the North Baltimore Garden Club cleaning, preparing and planting flowers in various garden beds around the village. Second, they spent some time with Gleaners Life Insurance of North Baltimore crafting and doing other service jobs around the village. The crafts created will be used for their Senior Smiles project, a county-wide 4-H initiative in cooperation with the Wood County Committee on Aging’s Home Delivered Meals program.
Dowling Stitch Stir and Stock
The Dowling Stitch Stir and Stock 4-H club participated in the Senior Smiles program, a partnership between Wood County 4-H and the Wood County Committee on Aging’s Home Delivered Meals Program. For their Inspire Kids to Do grant, the club decorated rocks and made cards for the senior residents that will be included in lunches delivered. In addition, they included purse sized hand sanitizer, puzzle books, tissues, pens, and more to provide a gift bag for 40 residents.
