In celebration of the 50th Wood County 4-H Camp at 4-H Camp Palmer
Deb Dewese completed 30 years of exemplary and humorous service to Wood County 4-H
- Our new Leader and Educator, Amy Michaels began her position in June
- Recipient of the JoAnn Fabric’s grant for the final time $750
- Increased the scholarship dollars for the 2025 Honor Court to $1000 for the two Top 4-H’ers and $750 per six additional members on the court
- Hosted the inaugural Hands to Larger Service Day with money to host a second event in 2026
- Received a grant from the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club for $1500 to support the Hands to Larger Service Day event
- Supported the new Farm to Market educational exhibit at the fair with monetary dollars and volunteer support
- Proud sponsor of the Wood County Junior Fair Parade
- 4-H’ers Bryce Nusbaum and Andrew Solomon represented Wood County at Ohio 4-H Sea Camp
- 4-H’ers Emma Nester and Grace Miller represented Wood County at Citizenship Washington Focus
- 4-H’ers Emma Nester and Grace Miller represented Wood County at Buckeye Leadership Workshop
- 4-H’er Olivia Zieman was a camp counselor for the Ohio 4-H Forestry and Wildlife Camp this past spring
- 4-H’er Drew Thomas was a counselor/chaperone for Citizenship Washington Focus spending several weeks in D.C. representing Wood County and Ohio 4-H
- 4-H’er Andrew Solomon represented Wood County 4-H at the regional 4-H Camp Palmer counselor training
- Recruited 3 new adults and 7 new youth to join 4-H committee
- Introduced credit card payment at the Milkshake Barn to better serve our customers
- Introduced the new 4-H Project Support opportunity for members at Advisor Training and promoted throughout the year
- New summer postcards to constituents showcasing what we accomplished so far and how they can continue to support us through time and monetary donations
- Partially funded the new sound system in the Junior Fair Building (which is awesome!)
- Switched Clover Legacy banking to State Bank with more customer support
- Became a registered 501©3 organization with Thrivent to earn member dollars
- Three teen 4-H’ers represented Wood County on the Ohio Teen Leadership Council – Grace Miller, Drew Thomas, Aidan Thomas
- Proud sponsor of the Ring of Dreams
- Drew Thomas was inducted into the Ohio 4-H Teen Hall of Fame
- Creation of the History of Camping in Wood County 4-H booklet
- Celebration of the 50th Wood County 4-H Camp at 4-H Camp Palmer
- The “box of books” was well received by local clubs as a returning club resource
- The 4-H Farm to Fork Beef Carcass project was successful in its first year with eight 4-H members participating and promotion has begun for year two
- Elizabeth Strow was named as an Ohio Friend of Extension at the annual Extension Conference this past December
- The new livestock judging sheets helped to clear up some confusion among judges and members, and will continue with just a few updates
- Return of 4-H Leadership Board to full capacity with all age groups – emphasis on recruitment and program content
- Trained 18 teens to be new 4-H Camp Counselors
- Jenny Morlock represented Wood County 4-H as the Grand Marshal of the Wood County Junior Fair Parade and 4-H on the Ohio State University Internal Advisory Committee
- Offered chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream at the milkshake barn in celebration of 4-H Camp 50th
- Continued a valued partnership with 88.1 WBGU radio monthly throughout the year and each day of the Wood County Fair
- Wood County was a stop for the Ohio State University Food Kindness project to distribute packaged meals to area non-profit agencies
- Spun 24,250 milkshakes this year at the Wood County Fair and National Tractor Pulling Championships for a total of 375,625 since 2002

- 1,654 projects were interviewed by 43 volunteer judges and advisors
- Ohio State Fair accomplishments to include: 7 clock trophies, 29 oustandings of the day, and the 1st place Livestock Judging Senior Team
- Wood County 4-H Alumna Katie Shanks traveled to Antarctica to study underwater volcanoes as part of a BGSU graduate study program and credits her love of rocks to her 4-H project in 2019…Geology: Can You Dig It?!
- 4-H Committee funded Clifton Strengths leadership profiles for each camp counselor and 4-H staff member with training provided by Area Leader, Megan Arnold
- 4-H member Madi Lee represented Wood County at the Ohio Fair Managers Association Queen contest and received 4th runner-up
- Supported Bridge Hospice of Northwest Ohio with handmade angels by the Leadership Board as a service project
- Added one new 4-H Club this year, Deeply Rooted
- 4-H parent Brian Kesling bought 36 milkshakes during fair week (1 strawberry, 15 chocolate, 20 mint chocolate chip)
- Introduced 4-H club craft kits to be utilized as a club resource
- State politicians visited and/or volunteered in the milkshake barn this season. Bob Latta made milkshakes during fair week and Frank LaRose, Secretary of State and former 4-H’er Laura Schaller (staff of LaRose) visited the milkshake barn during the Tractor Pulls.
- Sarah Davis began her tenure as a camp nurse in 2005 and celebrated 21 years of service to Wood County 4-H Camp this year
- 430 Senior Smile gifts were crafted this summer and distributed this fall through the Wood County Committee on Aging Meals on Wheels program and 11 backpacks for back to school were sponsored by local clubs for the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program
